Clarke County Alabama Marriage Records, 1814-1959

This collection of records at FamilySearch consists of marriage records from Clarke County Alabama. These marriage records cover the years of 1814-1959. To help users better understand and access these records, I have created this page.

These are called “county marriages” as they were recorded by the county, not the state, and they can be found permanently housed within Clark county’s records. As can be found across the South, marriage records were not always recorded for blacks, and when recorded, were often done in a different book from whites. It appears that Clarke County Alabama kept up that practice through April 1959.

These records are permanently held at the Clarke County Courthouse in Grove Hill, Alabama. Some pages wanting, torn, faded, bleeding through, etc.

You will need to be registered with FamilySearch to access these free records. Few of these records are searchable. It’s important that if you do not get results from the search, but you think your ancestor was married in Clarke County, that you then use the links below to access the digital images of the marriage volumes directly. Most volumes are individually indexed.

Mixed Marriage Records

Marriage records, v. 1 1916-1918

1819 marriage record for John Anderson and Lucinda Bryant or Boykin in Clarke County, Alabama

A disappointing situation for genealogists… was her maiden name Boykin or Bryant? What do you do when the marriage license and bond names do not match the marriage certificate issued?
