Obituary of Helen Claire Byrd (1942-2010)

January 20, 1942 – January 3, 2010

Mrs. Helen Claire Byrd, age 67, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at her Flomaton residence.

Mrs. Byrd was born in Mobile, AL and had been a resident of Flomaton since 1971. She retired as a bus driver for the Escambia County School System, and was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Edward Ray Byrd; her father, Mr. William Arzo Wiggins, Sr.; a brother, Mr. William Arzo Wiggins, Jr. and a Great Granddaughter, Jaylyn Franklin.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Doris D. Wiggins of Mobile; a son, Eddie Ray Byrd of Pensacola; four daughters, Joan (Steve) Gainous of Satsuma, Jane Franklin of Brewton, Jill Byrd of Flomaton, and Julie (Shane) Booth of Flomaton; one brother, James Edward (Linda) Wiggins of Mobile; nine grandchildren, Chris Byrd, Jeremy Gainous, Lamar Morris, Bobby Ray Franklin, III, Allison Franklin, Courtney Sapp, Alex Booth, Hunter Booth, Try Morris; and five great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Franklin, Rachel Sapp, Braxton Jernigan, Dakota Hall-Gainous, Brice Byrd.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. James Sturdivant officiating. Interment will follow in Pollard Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
