This is the McNeill Family Cemetery located across the street from the Autaugaville Methodist Church. Previous surveys have identified this cemetery as the Autaugaville Methodist Church Cemetery and the Old Autaugaville Cemetery. The “Old Autaugaville Cemetery” indicated in newspaper clippings, however, refers to the Asbury Cemetery, not this one. I would expect, but have not yet verified, that the McNeill home stood nearby this parcel of land in the 1860s.

The remaining listings still have headstones present at the graveyard. While the location for this cemetery was not given in the original grave listing, we know that it exists at Coordinates: 32.43657, -86.65473 and is now referred to as Asbury Cemetery. Dr. John E. Wilkinson, the well-known physician and druggist of Prattville and an elder brother of Judge William P. Wilkinson, was born near Autaugaville, Ala., in 1847, and was reared on the home farm and attended school at Autaugaville until sixteen years of age, when he joined company A, Eighth Alabama cavalry, of Gen. Clanton’s brigade and was engaged mostly in scouting throughout Alabama and on the coast, and surrendered about six months after the surrender of his general at Meridian, Miss.
