He was a native of Bartow, Florida and a former resident of Gulfport, MS and Mobile, Alabama before moving to Winter Haven 2 years ago. He was a retired Field Rep with the U.S. Department of Labor and was of the Methodist faith. He was a United States Army veteran and was a member of the J.H. McKormic Lodge #149. His joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Col. Alfred Y. Smith, a prominent and representative planter, and a son of Malcolm and Mary B. (Graham) Smith, was born in Autauga county, Alabama, in 1825.
